Hardware requirements

SimaPro is developed to run optimally on Windows PC's with a Pentium 4 processor.

You may run SimaPro on a Macintosh/Unix computer using Windows emulation software. We regret however we cannot give technical support for these systems.

Processor

For optimal performance we recommend a Pentium 4 processor or equivalent, 2.0 GHz or better.

Hard disk

A minimum of 1 GB of free hard disk space is required. For larger databases you will need more space.

Monitor

SimaPro can be run at a resolution of 800 x 600. A higher resolution is recommended.

CD-ROM

A CD-ROM drive is needed to install the software. As alternative you may download the full installation file (250 MB).

Internet

An internet connection is needed to check for availability of software and database updates on line. See Check for update under Help in the SimaPro menu.

An internet connection is recommend but not required to activate the SimaPro software online. This can be done automatically or manually via a web browser.

Software requirements

SimaPro 6 is a 32-bit Windows application and runs under Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows 2003 server and Windows XP. It is recommended to have the latest service packs installed.

From release 6.0.2 (October 2004), SimaPro installations are compatible with the requirements under Windows XP service pack 2.

Under certain circumstances administrator rights may be required for installation under Windows 2000, XP and 2003 server.

Multi-user version

The multi user version runs as a client-server system over TCP/IP and IPX (Novell) networks. The SimaPro Server must be installed on a computer with a Windows operating system, Novell servers are not supported.

Users (including student users) must have read/write rights on the server where SimaPro Server is installed.

Multi-user installation should be done by your system administrator/IT department. See also the installation instructions below.

Software upgrade and update

Upgrading from a SimaPro single user license to a multi user license, or from a temporary to a indefinite license, is possible any time. After upgrading you can still work with the same database(s) without loss of your data.

For updating from previous versions of SimaPro, a database conversion tool is available.

Database backup

We recommend you make regular backups of your database(s).

A SimaPro 5 database consists of 63 numbered files with *.FFD as extension (for example standard01.ffd - standard63.ffd). By default the database is installed in C:\ program files\simapro 5\database.

A SimaPro 6 database consists of 65 numbered files with *.FFD as extension (for example standard00.ffd - standard64.ffd). By default the database is installed in C:\ documents and settings\all users\(shared) documents\simapro\database.  See the installation manual for database locations in older Windows versions.

Make sure all files are copied as they are all interconnected. Note that the database must not be opened in SimaPro whilst making a backup.
